Bill at our Benefit Dinner

Bill at the Stove

This photo was taken with a really old digital camera, which is why it is so off-color. Still, it's one of the only pictures I have of Bill, and, while he mooes like a cow when he looks at it, he doesn't totally hate it. Everyone from Tae Kwon Do was there, so Bill did a fighting stance for the picture, getting a giggle out of the kids who were standing behind me. This is a great shot of just how big Bill's hands really are. *grin* He could rip someone's head off, but I have to open sugar packets and other tiny things for him. *grin*

This picture was taken in the kitchen of a local church in March 2005. Bill and I threw a most successful benefit dinner for Gery and Jane Weichman. Gery's one of our Tae Kwon Do instructors and a maintenance mechanic for the Holland Public Schools. His wife just had a successful kidney transplant, and they were quite short on funds.

It was Bill's idea to hold a dinner to raise money, and he volunteered to cook all of the chili. It was my job to set the whole thing up and make it come together....food, dishes, people, donations, etc.... and even though we have never done anything like this before, it totally did. Several people thought that it's my career running non-profits or entertainment companies because it all went so smoothly! We had over 100 people from Tae Kwon Do and the Holland Schools attend the dinner, plus a troop of Boy Scouts to help with pouring drinks, taking coats, and cleaning up. We had chili with crackers, salad, fresh baked corn muffins, and endless desserts (we asked everyone to bring one family-sized dessert to share). We raised over $1500 just at the dinner, and a lot more before and after. (People who couldn't come sent tax-deductable donations directly to the medical fund that I set up at a local bank).

It was scary but fun. I really think we were blessed to have it come together so well.
