A picture that my friend Teresa took earlier this week (8-18-2005). She recently got a new camera and is totally into the whole photography thing. I wanted a picture of me in my work station since Mom thinks the building I work in is cool. The work station product line is called Resolve, and it's light, airy, and organic. (Notice there are poles and screens instead of panels. No Dilbert cubicles for us).
Yes, my station is cluttered, and yes, I have a ton of computer equipment. My main computer is a dual-monitor, dual-processor HP Kayak with 3 harddrives, 2 internal and 1 external. (When I have to render a big animation with a lot of frames, I network my computer to a "render farm", 26 additional computers in our Design Yard on the other end of town. All of the computers then work together processing the frames). I also have a laptop with wireless so I can access my work computer and the 26 render farm computers from home or anywhere else. Before the laptop, I was driving into work at really weird times (4 am on a Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, etc.) just to spend an hour or two loading up new animations to process. The laptop lets me trigger these things from home. It's a blessing. (Okay, I know some of you worry about me working such crazy hours, but that's just par for the course with 3D stuff. People who make Playstation games for Sony have cots at work. The last animation took 60 hours of processing time. That's how long it took all of the computers to generate the frames after I build the 3D environment. And since I usually have tight deadlines, I need every free second that I can get. That means the minute one segments finishes, I need to get the next one processing).
Oh, and as for the picture, well, not one of my faves. I love the skirt and shoes (gotta love summer!), but it's a bad hair day, and I'm tired and it shows. I was a little late getting back from Kung Fu, so I was a little late eating my after-Kung-Fu snack, which means I was up half the night wondering why I thought half a pound of cherries followed by chips and salsa was a good idea right before bed.
